And this week, the stitch is buttonhole (or blanket) stitch
Below is my initial steps. I have yet to decide whether I prefer stitching with or without a hoop – I normally do it with one to keep the stitches even, tight and regular, but with keeping the thread out the way to make up the stitch I find it easier to do without the hoop. The stitches on the right are the ones done without the hoop, so I think I need to practise!
Here’s also some additional playing around I did last week with the fly stitch after seeing what some others were doing with the stitch

Your stiting is coming along nicely, Good work
Good progress! Good work with or without hoop
Isn’t this fun?
Nice going, I prefer the hoop as other wise I end up pulling the fabric in funny ways. However I am a total beginner, So who knows! Loving the variations you have done
I always debate hoop or no hoop, too. Last week was none, so I’m going to try with one this week. Nice work.
I think that’s part of the fun of the TAST challenge is to experiment, learn new stitches, and see what works best for you. It’s going to be interesting to look back 15 weeks from now…35 weeks from…and at the end of the year to see all the progress we all made! Enjoy!
progressing well.
Good Keep it up.
Good work
I tried it without the hoop this week for the same reasons, and I changed fabric too because I was getting holes. Which fabric do you use?
I’m using Aida in either 16 or 18 ct. I have loads of scrap Aida lying around as I tend to do a lot of cross stitch. I finished a large project back end of last year, and had decided that was a suitable time to stop cross stitch and try something new (I was getting bored of cross stitch and was on the look out for something different to try).
This also gives me an excuse to use up the threads and fabric I have lying around, rather than fork out loads of money on new stash that I wouldnt necessarily enjoy using.
Sharon’s idea is to test the stitches so you are going well. It’s a good way to see what works for us. Good fun as well as a learning curve too.
